"In a word, Johanna is amazing!
I've been playing guitar for many years and have always wanted to accompany myself by singing but never felt comfortable with my voice (except for occasional backup singing). I started interviewing local voice instructors, and was disappointed to find that most were basically non-professional singers who provide either opera and/or choral type lessons. They weren't very passionate, and ironically enough, they all sounded similar. Their voices did not move me. I decided to go online and purchase DVD lessons. Although the instructors were good, the lessons were too generic. I knew I was doing certain things incorrectly, and the DVD lessons couldn't help with that. I needed personal hands-on instruction. I stumbled across the Thumbtack site and found Johanna. On the initial phone call, I was impressed with her professionalism, and the passion she had towards singing. I explained that I wanted a teacher that was honest and would tell me when I was doing something wrong. None of that Oh you sound wonderful (even when I don't), nonsense. I don't subscribe to the kind of instruction that instills false confidence. It needs to be honest otherwise it's useless IMHO.
I almost walked out of my first lesson when I heard her sing. She is THAT good. I actually consider her to be one of my favorite female vocalists. She is also an accomplished pianist. Johanna has a way of pulling things out of me that I didn't realize were there. She is tactful, but also a very direct teacher. She instills true confidence. I used to have a whiny singing voice due to improper technique. Now my voice feels like an instrument that I can use to create music with. I have moments where I sing and think, Wow, was that me? It's pretty awesome! And this is after less than a year of training. I plan on continuing lessons for a while. If you want to be taught by a world-class vocal instructor, give Johanna a call. She will take your voice wherever you want it to go. The icing on the cake is that Johanna is a wonderful, friendly, and fun loving person."

"My experience has been nothing but positive with JB Vocal Studios! Three years ago I had vocal issues that were solved through doctors and Johanna. She has given me tools to work with to strengthen my voice and to not loose it! I would refer her to anyone that wants to better their range, learn ways to breath better and all around be a better singer! "I am an "older" (only 32!) student with some professional training, but wanted to get my voice back in shape and start singing again from a long break. I was only able to work with Johanna for about 6 months due to becoming pregnant.
In that time, not only did I build confidence, range, and strength, but she became a friend. Johanna is experienced and a professional. She pushed me to try songs that I didn't think I could sing. She helped me out of my comfort zone, and though I cracked up and laughed at how silly I sounded at times, it is just what a I needed to come out of my shell.  
Although I still have work to do, she helped me find my passion for singing again and my voice has improved tremendously, even in just 6 months.
